Take the Next Step in Your Practice

You have moved beyond learning the basic mechanics of litigation. You know how to communicate with clients, develop a case plan, prepare persuasive written work, and appear in court.

Now you need a position that gives you meaningful responsibility without expecting you to practice alone.

Pacific Northwest Family Law is hiring a mid-level attorney for its Bellevue office. This role is designed for an attorney who can manage most family law matters with limited supervision, exercise sound judgment, and recognize when a case requires collaboration or a second perspective.

You will work with clients facing consequential decisions involving children, property, businesses, support, and long-term financial security. The work requires strong advocacy, careful preparation, and the ability to remain steady when emotions are high.

The Role

You will be responsible for moving cases forward from initial strategy through negotiated resolution or trial. You will have access to experienced attorneys for consultation on complex issues, but you will be expected to take ownership of your work and communicate clearly with clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating facts and developing case strategy
  • Advising clients regarding risks, options, and likely outcomes
  • Drafting motions, declarations, discovery, and settlement documents
  • Preparing for and participating in mediation and negotiation
  • Conducting hearings and other courtroom proceedings
  • Preparing clients and witnesses for testimony
  • Managing deadlines, discovery, and case progression
  • Working with legal assistants and administrative staff
  • Collaborating with other attorneys on complex or high-conflict matters
  • Maintaining direct, timely, and professional client communication

Our attorneys are not responsible for routine lead screening, collecting fees, or managing administrative intake. Those functions are handled by dedicated support teams so attorneys can focus on legal work and client outcomes.

Who This Position Is For

This position is a good fit for an attorney who has developed practical litigation skills and is ready for greater independence.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Approximately three to seven years of legal experience
  • Meaningful family law or civil litigation experience
  • The ability to manage cases with limited supervision
  • Experience appearing in court
  • Strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills
  • Sound judgment in cases involving difficult clients or contested facts
  • The ability to explain complex legal issues in practical terms
  • Consistent follow-through and attention to deadlines
  • A willingness to use established systems and accept professional feedback
  • An interest in building a long-term practice in Bellevue and the Eastside

Family law experience is preferred. Attorneys with substantial litigation experience in another practice area may also be considered if they have courtroom experience and a serious interest in developing a family law practice.

Spanish-language ability is useful but not required.

Applicants must be active members in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association.

Compensation

The base-salary range for this position is:

$120,000–$155,000 per year

Placement within the range will depend on family law experience, litigation background, courtroom ability, professional judgment, and demonstrated capacity to manage cases independently.

Attorneys are expected to complete 1,500 credited hours annually. Up to 100 hours of approved pro bono work may count toward that requirement.

Additional performance-based compensation is available for collected attorney revenue attributable to work above 1,500 credited hours annually.

This position does not include relocation reimbursement or retention bonuses.

Support Without Micromanagement

Mid-level attorneys are expected to take ownership of their files, but they are not expected to work in isolation.

You will have access to experienced attorneys for strategic discussion, case review, and assistance with difficult issues. You will also work with legal assistants, administrative staff, and firm systems designed to reduce avoidable administrative burden.

The goal is to give you room to exercise judgment while ensuring that support is available when the stakes are high or the issues are unusually complex.

Benefits

Benefits include:

  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Retirement benefits
  • Payment of Washington State Bar dues
  • Prepaid, unlimited continuing legal education through NBI
  • Legal-assistant and administrative support
  • Access to experienced attorneys for strategy and case consultation
  • Partnership-track opportunity
  • Opportunities for greater responsibility and leadership as the firm grows

Time Away From Work

Attorneys manage their own schedules rather than requesting vacation and holidays in the traditional manner. Time away may be scheduled as needed, provided client obligations, court deadlines, and the annual credited-hour requirement are met.

Why Bellevue

Bellevue offers the opportunity to work in one of Washington’s most active and sophisticated legal markets.

Family law matters on the Eastside often involve complex financial issues, closely held businesses, executive compensation, real estate, parenting disputes, and high-conflict litigation. For a mid-level attorney, that creates the opportunity to deepen both legal and strategic skills while building a professional reputation in the Bellevue community.

This role is intended for someone who wants more than a title change. It is an opportunity to take on substantial work, develop greater independence, and build toward the next stage of a long-term practice.
