  • WSBA Membership
  • Family Law Experience

Bring substantial family law experience to a role with immediate case responsibility and a clear path toward leadership.

Pacific Northwest Family Law is seeking an experienced family law attorney for its Richland office. We are looking for an attorney who has already developed sound professional judgment, knows how to manage difficult cases and clients, and is ready to assume substantial responsibility from the beginning.

The strongest senior attorneys at Pacific Northwest Family Law accept responsibility for their work, communicate clearly with clients and colleagues, use firm systems, ask for another perspective when it will improve a case, and remain willing to change an approach when experience or evidence supports something better.

They also understand that leadership is demonstrated before it becomes a title. A senior attorney who strengthens a legal assistant, helps another lawyer think through a difficult case, identifies a recurring problem, or improves how the office serves clients is already showing us the qualities we look for in future leaders.

This environment will fit poorly with an attorney who prefers an isolated practice, treats support professionals as subordinate, resists shared systems, or equates experience with being beyond feedback.

We are also looking beyond immediate case production. We want an attorney who has demonstrated leadership among colleagues and who wants a meaningful role in the continued development of our Richland office. The position does not begin as a management job, but we expect a successful senior attorney to move toward leadership and partnership as the relationship develops.

Practice Family Law With the Support of a Firm Behind You

Experienced family law attorneys often reach a point where the legal work is only part of their job.

A solo attorney may also be responsible for marketing, intake, collections, accounting, technology, staffing, and running an office. An attorney practicing family law largely alone within a broader firm may have little opportunity to discuss difficult cases with lawyers who regularly handle the same issues.

We have built Pacific Northwest Family Law around a different model.

Our attorneys practice family law alongside other attorneys who handle the same kinds of difficult problems every day. They have access to colleagues for strategy, second opinions, and difficult legal questions. Legal assistants and other professional staff support the work around the attorney. The firm maintains its own marketing and intake systems rather than requiring associates to build a book of business before they can build a successful practice.

That allows an experienced attorney to spend more professional time where that experience matters: advising clients, developing strategy, negotiating, writing, appearing in court, and leading cases.

For an attorney who has spent years carrying both the practice of law and the business surrounding it, that can be a meaningful change.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • WSBA membership. Applicants must be active members in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association. Attorneys transferring from another jurisdiction will be considered if they are intent on obtaining Washington licensure.
  • 7+ years family law experience. The right candidate will be able to start off taking over family law matters and must possess the experience needed to do so.
  • Independent Case Management. You should be capable of evaluating a new matter, identifying the important factual and legal issues, setting strategy, communicating that strategy to the client and case team, and moving the case forward without constant supervision.
  • Strong written and oral advocacy. We expect our attorneys to make winning arguments, and we believe winning starts with excellent written work backed by effective courtroom advocacy. We are not looking for an attorney who files without thought and wings it in argument.
  • Leadership. While there will not initially be a set leadership role, we expect senior attorneys to set the standard in the firm and lead the way in advocacy for our clients.
  • Client communication. Family law clients are going through a great deal of stress and rely on you to ensure they have the information and communication needed to feel assured their matters are being handled with care.
  • Coachability. If you think you are the best and have nothing left to learn, please do not apply. Our best attorneys, including those who have practiced for decades, recognize that there is always more to learn.
  • Team oriented. We are not a group of solos practicing under one brand name. Our attorneys communicate and collaborate with one another to improve strategy and firm processes and create better opportunities for our clients.

Preferred qualities

  • Spanish language. Many of our clients are native Spanish speakers. Attorneys who can speak directly with those clients provide a better client experience than attorneys who must rely on translation, even though many of our legal assistants also speak Spanish.
