Practice family law remotely while staying connected to an experienced statewide team.

Pacific Northwest Family Law is seeking a Washington-licensed family law attorney for a fully remote position.

This role is open to licensed attorneys at different stages of practice. We are more interested in whether you can communicate well, learn quickly, manage responsibility, and serve clients effectively than in fitting you into a narrow experience band.

You will work remotely, manage family law matters, communicate directly with clients, and use firm systems and support staff to move cases forward. You will also remain connected to attorneys throughout the firm for strategy discussions, case questions, and professional development.

This is a remote position, but it is still a Washington litigation practice. Some matters may require in-person appearances, particularly trials. When practical, the firm may coordinate with attorneys located near the courthouse for other hearings, mediations, or in-person needs.

Remote Work Without Isolated Practice

Remote legal work can create independence, but it can also create professional isolation.

Pacific Northwest Family Law operates differently. Our attorneys manage their own matters while remaining connected through shared systems, firmwide meetings, experienced colleagues, and regular case discussions. Attorneys can ask questions, test strategy, and draw on the experience of lawyers practicing throughout Washington.

We expect remote attorneys to exercise judgment and take responsibility for their work. We also expect them to stay engaged with the rest of the firm.

The firm maintains centralized intake, marketing, accounting, technology, and administrative systems so attorneys can spend more of their time on legal work rather than building their own separate business infrastructure.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • WSBA membership. Applicants must be active members in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association. Attorneys transferring from another jurisdiction will be considered if they are intent on obtaining Washington licensure.
  • Litigation experience. Attorneys with strong litigation experience in any practice area may also be considered if they are serious about developing family law capability and willing to learn the firm’s systems and approach
  • Strong written and oral advocacy. We expect our attorneys to make winning arguments, and we believe winning starts with excellent written work backed by effective courtroom advocacy. We are not looking for an attorney who files without thought and wings it in argument.
  • Client communication. Family law clients are going through a great deal of stress and rely on you to ensure they have the information and communication needed to feel assured their matters are being handled with care.
  • Coachability. If you think you are the best and have nothing left to learn, please do not apply. Our best attorneys, including those who have practiced for decades, recognize that there is always more to learn.
  • Team oriented. We are not a group of solos practicing under one brand name. Our attorneys communicate and collaborate with one another to improve strategy and firm processes and create better opportunities for our clients.

Preferred qualities

  • Family law experience. Family law has a specific skill set and those who are already familiar with the rules and procedures will have a leg up in learning our way of handling family law matters.
  • Spanish language. Many of our clients are native Spanish speakers. Attorneys who can speak directly with those clients provide a better client experience than attorneys who must rely on translation, even though many of our legal assistants also speak Spanish.

Court Appearances and Travel

This is a remote position, but family law remains a litigation practice.

Some matters may require in-person attendance, especially trials. Depending on the case and location, the firm may also coordinate with a local attorney for hearings, mediations, or other matters where an in-person appearance is appropriate.

Candidates should be prepared for occasional travel when the needs of a case require it.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary: $80,000 to $120,000 depending on experience

Attorneys are expected to bill and collect 1500 hours a year. If you are otherwise on track, you may count 100 hours of qualified and approved pro bono work to your yearly requirement.

Attorneys who exceed the 1,500-hour requirement receive additional compensation equal to 30% of the collected attorney revenue generated by work above that threshold.

The firm handles marketing and intake. Attorneys who choose to develop their own referral relationships receive an additional 10% rainmaker bonus on revenue collected from clients they originate.

For this Richland Washington position we also offer a retention bonus after six months with the firm.

Home Office Equipment

Pacific Northwest Family Law provides the basic equipment necessary for the attorney to work remotely.

That will generally include:

  • Firm computer
  • Printer
  • Required software
  • Access to firm systems and communications tools
  • Other reasonable equipment needed for the role

Firm-provided equipment remains firm property and must be returned when employment ends.

We can work through the practical details of the home-office setup with the attorney before the start date.
